In his 20th season coaching in the NFL, this will be Anthony Lynn’s 3rd season as Head Coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. In his three years as Chargers Head Coach, Lynn has amassed a 21-12 regular-season record, while being the only African American Coach in team history. Furthermore, Coach Lynn lead the Chargers to the postseason in 2018 for the first time in five seasons. After making it to the Divisional Round of the Playoffs of the NFL, these Chargers are looking to get to the next level this season.

After finishing the season with their record best season since 2016 the Chargers had, a league-leading, seven players selected to the 2019 Pro Bowl. Additionally, they’ve had at least one undrafted rookie make their 53-man roster in the past 15 of 17 seasons. Remarkably they’ve also win eight-straight road contest proving their resiliency under Coach Anthony Lynn.

A couple of days before kickoff against the Indianapolis Colts, I asked Coach Lynn how he gets into a rhythm during the game he responded by saying, “Just knowing what you’re doing. Having confidence and faith in your plan and knowing it like the back of your hand then going into the game and execute. We all have to be at your best. Our best chance of winning on Sunday is when we can do that.”

Coach Lynn has really helped to build a unit that pushes each other to get better, veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor expounded on this when we discussed what differentiates this team from the other teams he’s played on, “this is a very talented team and the bond the guys have in the locker room and the unity is something that leaps out. The experience and the leadership set this team apart from other teams I’ve been on!”

2nd year Defensive Back Brandon Facyson discussed this with me and exposed some of the things that have made him feel comfortable and ready to excel, “Coming in and I was trying to get adjusted, guy like Casey (Hayward), guys like Adrian Phillips (AP) and Mike all those guys did a great job with me and all the others guys coming in. Getting us acclimated to everything.” When I asked for tangible examples of how they prepared him he mentioned, “How to use my hands better; how to get in and out my breaks faster.”

When talking to veteran Defensive Back Casey Hayward, I wanted to know about how comfortable he was with the guys that would be replacing All-Pro Safety Derwin James who suffered an injury late in their Pre-Season, “I’m very comfortable with them guys! AP (Adrian Phillips) played a lot of ball for us last couple years. Essentially last year he was a starter. He knows this defense more than anyone on this defense, besides some of the coaches. So, he knows what the front is doing; he knows what the linebackers are doing and everybody in the secondary doing; so, he be helping us out!”

Additionally, Hayward mentioned that “Rayshawn Jenkins also started a couple of games for them last season, and in camp, he’s been doing pretty good.” He is specifically said that he needs to be “technically sound. They got some really good players All-Pro guy in TY, all Pro Tight End and All-Pro Front. We got to go in their clicking on all cylinders, to get the win”

The Los Angeles Chargers have cumulated a record 32-27 in season openers. They look to extend this on Sunday against the Colts who they also have an All-Time 16-10 record against.
