On an unseasonably humid night at the Banc of California Stadium, the Los Angeles Football Club welcomed cross-time rival LA Galaxy. Having lost their previous match up to the Galaxy in their stadium the LAFC was focused on defending their home field. The LAFC begins each match with the ceremonial release of their Falcon Olly, their Honorary Falconer on this night was UCLA Graduate and 5-time NBA Champion Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The spirited 3252 is called upon to lead the stadium in the signing of the National Anthem before each match begins.

The 3252, is LAFC’s group of supporters’ behind the goal on the North Side of the stadium. These fans take cheerleading to a different level. They have multiple chants which will undoubtedly have you singing along and rooting for the LAFC in no time. Many of these supporters are at the game in their standing-only section singing and chanting hours before the match begins.

Regardless of how nice the scene that was set, cross-town nemesis Zlatan Ibramimovic wasted no time in attempting to silence the 3252 by scoring his first goal at the 2:00 mark, the quickest goal of his career. Letif Blessing did respond with a goal of his own fairly quickly, though Zlatan came back to score his second goal in the initial 15 minutes of the match in a fashion that said he was fully in tune with the field, the ball, the goalie and the goal. By knocking the ball out the air when passed to him, though directing the ball to fall just behind the quickly charging defender… Ibramimovic simply sidestepped the defender for the second of his goals on the short game as well as possibly the sweetest goals I’ve seen scored in my life.

The Galaxy took a 3-1 lead before Blessing scored his second goal of the evening just before the half, to narrow the lead and to keep the LAFC in the game. MLS leading scorer and Player of the Month, of March and April Carlos Vela scored his goal in minute 53 to tie the game. With this goal, Carlos extended his league-leading goal total to 27 goals, in a remarkable 27 games. Though he had to be replaced due to a hamstring tweak and they didn’t want to risk any further injury.

This match between the Galaxy and LAFC, however, ended in a tie. Head Coach Bob Bradley says the LAFC "started off forcing passes; jamming plays!” “The response in the second half was great; they created a bunch of chances.” Graciously Bradley took time to explain in-depth, “We got to make more plays than them, I don’t think early in the game we’ve made more plays than them.”

Having been to Major League Baseball games, NFL Playoff games, NBA Playoffs and Finals games I can confidently say these LAFC games are by far the most interactive, fun and infectious environments for a sporting event on the Los Angeles market. I doesn’t hurt to have the league’s leading scores and an 11-0-2 record in front of the 3252 and their fans.

This is an exciting and fun atmosphere, if you haven’t made time to check out LAFC, you won’t be upset once you do so.
