Travis Etienne rushed for 205 yards (on just 12 carries) and scored three touchdowns as top-ranked Clemson defeated ACC-rival Georgia Tech, 52-14, in its 2019 season opener. Etienne scored on runs of 90, 14 and 48 yards. His 90-yard scoring run tied a school record.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kenny Willekes  there were any concerns about whether Kenny Willekes could be the same kind of destructive force along Michigan State’s defensive line after recovering from a broken leg, he put them to rest in Friday night’s opener.

The redshirt senior defensive end recovered a pair of fumbles including one in the enzone, in addition to leading the Spartans in tackles in a 28-7 win over Tulsa. Willekes’ seven tackles included 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss as the Spartans set a new program record by holding the Golden Hurricane to negative-73 rushing yards.

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has named Willekes the National Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. He’s the fifth Spartan player to receive the honor and first since former linebacker Jon Reschke did on Nov. 22, 2015.
