Are you a football fans, have you caught the new AAF Football? I love the sport of football, form playing in the back yards as a kid to playing throughout High School I enjoyed the lesson of discipline and hard work, which culminated into immediate dominance! I truly enjoyed that! Since then I’ve been to High School football games while not knowing anyone on the field, or sidelines. I’ve been to college football games, NFL football games and even I’ve been to the “Big Game at the End,” the XFL Championship game. And I’ve enjoyed each of these variations of football.

This past Sunday, I got an opportunity to cover the San Diego Fleet in this new AAF league. It was 61 degree to begin the game between the San Antonio Commanders, led by Head Coach Mike Riley, who visited the San Diego Fleet, led by Superbowl Winning Coach Mike Martz, at the SDDCU Stadium in Week 3 of the inaugural season of the new AAF league.

This is a rematch of a week one match up, which saw the San Antonio commanders win their initial game at their home stadium. As the game started, I was waiting for the traditional kick off, not seeing that kickoffs to start the game threw me a bit. After the coin flip the ball was place on the 25-yard line. the elimination of kickoffs was meant to save time and the possibility of injuries, but an unintended consequence was the removal of a potential big play on a kickoff return.

Though the Commanders capitalized on an interception they got on the first play of the game, by scoring a touchdown on their initial drive of the game, the Fleet responded by scoring the 28 unanswered points. Leading the team to victory was Humboldt State grad La’Quan Gardner ran for over 100 yards for the second consecutive week, in addition to gaining the longest run and biggest paly in AAF football with his 83-yard run in the third quarter.

Led by some of the most respected football minds in the game, The Alliance of American Football, The Alliance of American Football is top-flight professional football fueled by an unprecedented Alliance between players, fans and the game. Founded by TV and film producer Charlie Ebersol and Hall of Famer Bill Polian. The Alliance features eight teams with 52-player rosters playing a 10-week regular season schedule beginning Feb. 9, 2019 on CBS, followed by two playoff rounds and culminating with the championship game at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas on April 27, 2019.

Very uniquely, fans can stream Alliance matchups live via the free Alliance app while accessing integrated gaming options with real rewards — for themselves and the players they are cheering on. With a focus on player well-being on and off the field, The Alliance provides players with a commitment to safety and state-of-the-art equipment as well as a comprehensive bonus system, post-football career planning, financial counseling and scholarship support for postsecondary education. Admittedly I am a hug fan of football, so I enjoyed my time at the Stadium. Thought the attendance was never announced at the game the it was obvious that there were still many football fans in San Diego

and many of them came out to support the Fleet in their in their initial home game. So much so they had their boisterous fans setup in their own section, chanting and screaming throughout the game, proving they were clearly excited to have football back in their town. Please let me know your thoughts on the AAF and if you think this new football league has a chance to survive by sharing your thoughts with us by commenting in the comment section of this article on www.whatsgoodinsports.com or reaching out to us on twitter @whatsgoodinsports.
