UCLA Gets First Win

You could tell this game was going to be different for UCLA as freshman QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson connected on his first nine passes against the Cal Bears in front of 45,889 fans. He finished the day going 13 of 15 for 141 yards in leading the Bruins to a 37-7 win over the Bears and helping the Bruins record their first of the season and the first under coach Chip Kelley.
DTR also had a ground game to go with his offense as Joshua Kelley had a career best in rushing for 157 yards on 30 carries and three touchdowns to lead the Bruins. He was the first Bruin since Jordan James (2013) to rush for 100 yards in three consecutive games.
“We knew we could play like this, “ said Thompson-Robinson. ”It was just finding that rhythm and everybody doing their job.”
The 348 totals yards was the best output of the season for the young Bruins (1-5, 1-2 Pac12).
On the defensive side the Bruins were led by Adarius Pickett 9 tackles, and Krys Barnes of Bakersfield had 8 tackles including 5 solo with 3 for loss.
Kesiean Licifer-South had 6 tackles with 5 of them solo.
UCLA linebackers Barnes and Licier-South had pass interceptions while Pickett and Lokeni Toailoa recovered fumbles.
Next up: Bruins host Arizona at the Rose Bowl Saturday.City, Texas sophomore set a school record with 28 tackles and helped lead the Sooners to a 28-21 overtime win against Army.
His play helped him earn the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week award.
Murray ‘s teammate Curtis Bolden also surpassed the 20 tackle mark with 23 stops. Murray and Bolden became just the second pair to have 20 plus tackles in a game. In 1974 Dewey Selmon (22) and Rod Shoate (20) helped with a 16-13 win over Texas.
Blake Larussa of Old Dominion earned the Offensive POW award after completing 30 of 49 for 495 yards in leading the Monarchs to a 49-35 upset win over (15th ranked Va. Tech. Larussa is the first ODU player to earn the award.
